ARTIST BACKGROUND

About The Miracles

The Miracles were among the earliest vocal groups associated with Berry Gordy's recording enterprise. Their original lineup included Smokey Robinson, Claudette Robinson, Pete Moore, Bobby Rogers and Ronnie White, with guitarist Marv Tarplin closely involved in their sound. Songs such as Shop Around, The Tracks of My Tears and Ooo Baby Baby joined group singing with carefully crafted songwriting. Members also wrote for other Motown performers. After Smokey Robinson began a solo career, Billy Griffin led recordings including Do It Baby and Love Machine.

Love Machine - label original release and Billy Griffin lineup
The label identifies Billy Griffin as the new lead after Smokey Robinson, Do It Baby in 1974, and City of Angels plus the two-part Love Machine single in 1975. The 1976 hit peak does not establish its first release, and solo Smokey recordings are a separate artist identity. | Reviewed 2026-10-18

About this artist collection

The retained Miracles band identity is used across the reviewed Miracles and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles credits. Shop Around and Whos Lovin You preserve the named Bill Smokey Robinson lead billing; the later Billy Griffin recordings retain their different lead. Smokey Robinson solo releases are excluded, and the existing band biography is reused.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
