ARTIST BACKGROUND

About John Mellencamp

John Mellencamp is an Indiana singer and songwriter whose music connects garage rock with folk traditions and portraits of American life. His early records appeared under the John Cougar name. American Fool brought Jack and Diane and Hurts So Good to a broad audience; Uh-Huh restored Mellencamp to his recording name. He also helped establish Farm Aid with Willie Nelson and Neil Young in 1985.

About this artist collection

Uses the retained John Mellencamp solo identity, with the original Johnny Cougar, John Cougar and John Cougar Mellencamp record credits explicitly reviewed through the official stage-name chronology and licensed albums. Wild Night retains the full Meshell Ndegeocello duet credit and its actual joint annual identity. Peaceful World retains India.Arie; other collaborators are not blanket aliases for solo recordings.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
