ARTIST BACKGROUND

About Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley's early records brought country, blues, gospel, R&B and pop into a new rock-and-roll setting during the 1950s. His singing and physical stage style helped carry that mixture to a large audience. His career also moved through film work, ballad singing and later concert performances, so the familiar early rock records represent only one part of his repertoire. Gospel and quieter vocal interpretations continued alongside the more rhythmic material associated with his breakthrough.

About this artist collection

The existing Elvis Presley annual credit ID is retained. The original Sun trio's Elvis, Scotty and Bill billing is preserved on the selected Sun recordings; it does not create a separate career for a backing musician. Later remixes, duets and concert performances are not silently substituted for these original masters.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
