ARTIST BACKGROUND

About Green Day

Green Day emerged from the Bay Area punk scene with Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool forming the familiar trio. Dookie brought their concise, melodic songs to a much larger audience in 1994. Subsequent records added acoustic ballads and a wider range of arrangements, while American Idiot developed an extended rock-opera form that later reached the stage. The group entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Original band recordings remain separate from the later theatrical cast versions.

Retains the Green Day group credit. Side projects, member solo work and American Idiot cast recordings are separate identities. Welcome to Paradise is represented once by the Dookie recording; Good Riddance is the familiar Nimrod recording.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
