ARTIST BACKGROUND

About Brenda Lee

Brenda Lee began performing on radio and television as a child and signed with Decca in 1956. Her work with producer Owen Bradley linked a forceful rock-and-roll delivery to carefully arranged pop ballads. She also recorded in several languages as her audience expanded internationally. Country recordings became a larger part of her later career, including her renewed work with Bradley in the 1970s. Across those changes, her catalog gives unusually clear examples of one singer adapting her phrasing to very different arrangements.

The retained Brenda Lee solo identity is used. Original English-language Decca recordings remain separate from later rerecordings, translated versions and collaborative performances. The selected I Want to Be Wanted album presentation has an explicit retained-edition review.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
