Symphony in E major
Hans Rott
Work background
Researched classical background
Rott completed this large orchestral work while still a young musician in Vienna. It remained outside the concert repertory for more than a century, receiving its first complete performance in 1989. Its four movements combine an expansive symphonic scale with march, chorale and dance elements. The scherzo moves through landler and waltz gestures familiar from Viennese musical life.
