Etudes, Op. 10 and Op. 25
Frederic Chopin
Work background
Researched classical background
Chopin's two sets of twelve etudes make technical study inseparable from musical character. Different pieces concentrate on arpeggios, chromatic motion, double notes, wide spans, or the independence of the hands, yet each develops a distinctive musical idea. Their demands extend beyond speed to balance, phrasing, and tone. This entry groups Op. 10 and Op. 25 without claiming that they were composed together.
