Krzysztof Penderecki
Work background
Researched classical background
Penderecki's First Symphony uses four named sections, with two Dynamis sections placed between an opening and closing Arche. The score treats changes in orchestral density, register and instrumental attack as central structural events. Penderecki conducted its premiere with the London Symphony Orchestra in Peterborough in 1973, bringing a large concert orchestra into the cathedral setting.
