Symphony in C major
Georges Bizet
Work background
Researched classical background
Bizet wrote the Symphony in C as a seventeen-year-old student at the Paris Conservatoire. It was neither published nor performed during his lifetime, and its modern concert history began in 1935. The four-movement score includes a prominent oboe melody in its slow movement, clear orchestral exchanges and a fast finale that displays the young composer's instrumental fluency.
