Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67
Ludwig van Beethoven
Work background
Researched classical background
The opening four-note rhythm becomes a building block that connects much of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Its compact first movement contrasts with a variations movement, a scherzo, and a finale reached through an extended transition. The final movement broadens the orchestra's sound with additional instruments. The Fifth and the Pastoral Symphony shared their first concert in Vienna in 1808.
