Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77
Johannes Brahms
Work background
Researched classical background
Brahms wrote his Violin Concerto in close contact with Joseph Joachim, who advised on the solo part and supplied a frequently used cadenza. Its broad first movement places the violin within a symphonic argument rather than an uninterrupted display piece. An extended oboe melody opens the slow movement, and the finale adds a strongly accented dance character to the concerto's substantial design.
