Symphony No. 7
Allan Pettersson
Work background
Researched classical background
Pettersson's Seventh unfolds in one continuous movement, with contrasting phases rather than separate traditional movements. Strongly dissonant and rhythmically urgent passages give way to longer, more songlike writing. Recurrent ideas connect those shifts, and the later lyrical expanses acquire their character through their relationship with the earlier pressure. The work is dedicated to conductor Antal Dorati.
