Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92
Ludwig van Beethoven
Work background
Researched classical background
Rhythm gives Beethoven's Seventh Symphony an unusually persistent sense of motion. After an expansive introduction, the first movement settles into a distinctive dotted pattern. The Allegretto supplies a quieter but equally purposeful pulse before the later movements increase the energy. Its first performances formed part of Vienna concerts that also featured Wellington's Victory, including a benefit for wounded soldiers.
