Symphony No. 3
Per Norgard
Work background
Researched classical background
Norgard's Third Symphony joins two choirs to the orchestra in a two-movement design. Its interlocking lines draw on his infinity-series technique, natural harmonics and carefully proportioned rhythms. In the later stages, Rilke's poetry and a quotation from Schubert's Du bist die Ruh enter the texture. The voices therefore emerge from an already complex network of related musical patterns.
