The Marias formed in Los Angeles around singer Maria Zardoya and multi-instrumentalist and producer Josh Conway. Zardoya's English- and Spanish-language singing brings jazz and soul elements into arrangements that also draw on atmospheric indie rock. Cinema appeared in 2021, followed by a collaboration with Bad Bunny. Submarine continued the album catalog in 2024, including No One Noticed, while maintaining the mixture of soft vocal textures and carefully layered production.
