ARTIST BACKGROUND

About The Four Seasons

The Four Seasons built their early sound around Frankie Valli's high lead voice and the closely coordinated harmonies of Bob Gaudio, Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito. Their recordings connect doo-wop vocal exchanges with strongly marked pop rhythms. The group later explored longer arrangements on The Genuine Imitation Life Gazette and returned to a more dance-oriented studio sound on Who Loves You. Valli's solo recordings form a separate catalog, even when anthologies present them beside the group's work.

The Classic Albums Box - original album chronology and programs
The original label lists the group albums from 1962 through 1992 and reproduces the original programs. The reviewed early programs place Sherry and Big Girls in 1962; Walk Like a Man and Alone in 1963; and Candy Girl, Marlena and Stay in the 1963 Ain't That a Shame program.
