John Michael Montgomery grew up around his parents' band in Kentucky and became a lead singer himself before Nashville scouts brought him a recording opportunity. Life's a Dance introduced his country career to a wider audience. His baritone became associated with romantic songs including I Swear and I Love the Way You Love Me, but his repertoire also includes narrative material such as Letters from Home and the brisk Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident).
