About Four Tops
The Four Tops began in Detroit as the Four Aims, singing jazz songs and standards before their Motown breakthrough. Levi Stubbs, Renaldo Benson, Lawrence Payton and Abdul Fakir formed the original quartet. Work with Holland-Dozier-Holland placed Stubbs' dramatic lead voice against group harmonies and the label's studio musicians, producing records including Baby I Need Your Loving and Reach Out I'll Be There.
