About Deep Purple
Deep Purple developed in Britain during the late 1960s, combining forceful rock playing with classical influences. Its changing lineups included the Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Roger Glover and Ian Paice configuration heard on In Rock and Machine Head. Later changes brought David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, while concert improvisation remained an important part of the band's identity.
