About Bread
Bread began in Los Angeles with David Gates, Jimmy Griffin and Robb Royer, all musicians who contributed to its early recordings. The trio's self-titled Elektra debut appeared in 1969. Gates supplied songs including Dismal Day and It Don't Matter to Me, while Griffin and Royer formed another writing partnership. Although the group became associated with 1970s soft rock, that first album also included more forceful guitar-led material alongside its ballads.
