For an exhibition of invented book covers, Ari gave one series a distinctive border made of uneven blue squares. A plain background helped accentuate that feature without adding another competing pattern. The largest cover occupied a prominent place beside the entrance, where visitors were likely to notice it first. Ari's tutor asked him to explain each choice separately: what made the series recognizable, what emphasized that feature, and what gave a particular work a noticeable position in the room.
Ari moved a smaller cover to the prominent entrance position during a trial arrangement and found that its border remained distinctive at that smaller size. He could accentuate the same pattern through spacing and contrast, so he did not need to enlarge every work. The exercise showed why the three descriptions were useful for different decisions. A cover could be easy to notice because of where it stood, while the recurring border made it recognizable as part of this particular series.
