Nia next tried to decipher the cramped handwritten labels on the print log, asking the original recorder to clarify two uncertain marks. Once the entries were readable, she could educe a useful pattern: every striped poster followed a change to the same setting. That relationship offered an insight into where the next comparison should focus. It did not yet explain every detail of the fault, but it gave the group a reasoned direction instead of another guess based on who had submitted a file.
A student who could decipher every label still needed to decide what, if anything, the entries supported. Nia helped him educe the pattern by arranging the results in order and comparing the setting beside each one. The resulting insight concerned a relationship in their observations, not an ability to read the handwriting more neatly. The team planned one controlled comparison to see whether the pattern continued when the suspected setting alone changed, and they recorded the limits of their present conclusion.
