The detail that changes a decision

At a furniture workshop, Eleni showed perspicacity when she noticed that fresh paint concealed an uneven repair on a donated desk. Her mentor's sagacity appeared in the decision to examine the structure before approving another cosmetic change. A myopic plan would have focused only on making the desk attractive for the next sale. Eleni wanted to understand what the earlier repair meant for the intended use, so she asked the group to inspect the hidden joint before choosing its next task.
The mentor praised Eleni's perspicacity because several people had looked at the desk without noticing the irregular line beneath the paint. Sagacity required more than spotting that detail; the group also needed sound judgment about how to respond. Painting over the joint again would be myopic if it merely postponed a problem that would interrupt the desk's use later. They recorded what they had found and revised the plan instead of letting the approaching display date settle the decision for them.
