For a scene set in a wealthy collector's home, the design students created an opulent room with rich fabrics and generously cushioned seating. The mirror frame was ornate, covered in curling patterns that took several afternoons to construct from painted materials. One student wanted the entrance to become more ostentatious, placing an enormous imitation crest above the door so visitors would immediately notice the character's concern with status. The director asked whether that extra display revealed the character or merely repeated what the room already communicated.

An opulent setting could suggest comfort and wealth without every object competing for attention. The ornate frame contributed detailed decoration, while the proposed crest was deliberately ostentatious because its purpose was to advertise importance to anyone entering. The team kept the frame but tested a smaller crest beside the door. That distinction allowed them to discuss the quality, decoration, and intended effect of each object separately rather than treating every expensive-looking or elaborate surface as the same kind of statement.
