Money returned, claims corrected

The refund provided restitution for the extra amount the member had paid. The chair also chose to repudiate a suggestion that the committee had approved duplicate billing as a way to raise funds, since the records showed an entry error rather than such a decision. A committee member agreed to retract his earlier statement that the club never issued refunds. That claim had been made before he checked the existing booking terms, and leaving it uncorrected would give other members a misleading account of the process.

Restitution addressed the financial loss, while a clear explanation addressed the inaccurate statements circulating around it. The chair could repudiate an unsupported account without refusing to acknowledge the club's actual mistake. The member who had spoken too soon needed to retract his own claim openly, so the people who heard it would also receive the correction. The next notice therefore described the error, the refund, and the review of recent entries in plain terms without making a broader promise that mistakes could never happen again.
