A fixed page size imposed an inherent limit on the amount of material the journal could display at once. One implication of increasing the title size was that some contents entries would require more space. The team also agreed that printing could begin only after every contributor approved the final text; a corollary was that the last outstanding approval would determine the earliest possible start. Those consequences needed to appear in the plan before anyone promised a delivery date to the distributor.

The inherent space limit did not make a readable layout impossible, but it forced the designer to account for tradeoffs between type, spacing, and the number of entries. The implication of each choice became clearer when the team compared actual page samples rather than general descriptions. The approval rule had a straightforward corollary as well: finishing the cover early would not by itself authorize printing. A reliable schedule needed to follow the conditions the team had actually adopted.
