The regular stage manager could not attend the next rehearsal, so the conductor assigned a volunteer to handle room access in the interim. A delivery was imminent, with the driver expected within a few minutes, and someone needed to know where the equipment should go. The group could defer its discussion of next month's schedule, but it could not postpone the immediate handover instructions. The conductor gave the volunteer a short list and the name of the person responsible for receiving each item.

In the interim, the volunteer kept the access log and passed any unanswered questions to the conductor. When the imminent delivery arrived, the equipment had a designated place and did not block the musicians returning to their seats. The group agreed to defer the longer planning discussion until the stage manager could contribute. That postponement concerned a later decision, not the responsibilities that had to be covered during the temporary arrangement already in effect.
