An elusive silver token keeps the tabletop puzzle team searching because its location changes whenever a player rotates the outer ring. An insuperable barrier blocks one route: the printed rules provide no way to cross a sealed wall or remove it from the board. Repeating the same forbidden move is futile because it cannot create the legal passage the players need. One player proposes checking a different route, while another records the token's position before and after each permitted rotation to look for a useful pattern.

The elusive token becomes easier to track once the players stop changing several pieces without recording their movements. The insuperable barrier remains impossible to cross under the unchanged rules, so discovering another route matters more than greater determination at that wall. The team also abandons the futile move instead of treating repetition as evidence of progress. After comparing the recorded positions, the players find a legal path to the token and can explain which information made the difference in their approach.
