A skirmish over the final strip of planting space briefly interrupts the garden drama before either character has touched the disputed tools. An irate gardener shouts that the boundary marks have been ignored and refuses to listen to the first explanation. The gardener's wrath grows into a powerful wish to punish the supposed offender by excluding him from the shared harvest. The narrator later reveals a misplaced measuring string, giving the characters a reason to reconsider both their factual assumptions and the force of their responses.

The earlier skirmish remains a limited dispute about one strip, even though the raised voices make it sound larger to a passerby. The irate gardener becomes quieter after seeing how the string slipped from the marker, but still needs time to hear the full explanation. His wrath had already prompted a threat that affected the other person's sense of belonging in the garden. The final scene therefore includes both a corrected boundary and an acknowledgment that the threat went beyond the facts available at the time.
