One recording made the transcription especially arduous. An unremitting mechanical hum ran beneath every speaker's voice, and several names were difficult to distinguish. Ben's tenacity showed in his careful return to uncertain passages and his requests for help. He marked words he could not establish instead of filling the gaps with guesses, and he worked in manageable sessions.

The unremitting hum never disappeared from the recording, but a second listener resolved several uncertain phrases. Completing the transcript remained arduous, requiring repeated checks against the audio. Ben's tenacity did not mean working without breaks or claiming certainty he lacked. It meant returning to the difficult task, documenting the remaining gaps, and carrying the work as far as the evidence allowed.
