The attribution of a community mural to its lead artist overlooked the assistants who had painted several of its most distinctive sections. The organizer's ascription of the project's success entirely to luck also ignored the group's months of careful preparation. An assistant chose to impugn that account by producing dated sketches and records of the shared work. The discussion concerned how credit and causes were assigned, rather than whether the finished mural deserved to remain on display.

A revised attribution named the lead artist and assistants, making the description of authorship more faithful to the records. The ascription of success to luck gave way to an account that acknowledged planning as well as a fortunate stretch of dry weather. To impugn the original account was to challenge its validity, not to erase the mural or deny that chance had played any part. The organizer thanked the assistant for identifying precisely which claims needed correction.
