Check equality and replacement separately

For one scene, two plain jackets were interchangeable because either could serve the same role without affecting the intended appearance or fit. The group also sought parity in access to fitting appointments, giving each performer the same opportunity to book a suitable time. Extra preparation was proportionate to the complexity of a costume: a layered outfit received more attention than a simple scarf. Replacement, equal access, and appropriate scale were different questions, even though they all helped the wardrobe run fairly.

The jackets stopped being interchangeable after one was altered for a performer with a different fit requirement, so the coordinator updated the labels. Parity in booking access did not require every fitting to last exactly the same number of minutes. Instead, the time allowed could remain proportionate to the work involved while each performer had an equal chance to arrange it. The group checked these relationships separately to avoid using the word equal as though it solved every practical comparison.
