A plan with weak points

A theater group planned a weekend performance in a borrowed courtyard. Its position was precarious because permission depended on a renovation finishing in time. The group's connection with the owner was tenuous: only one former member had ever spoken with her. As a contingency plan, the director reserved a small indoor room that could accommodate a simplified version of the performance.
The director strengthened the tenuous connection by arranging a meeting with the owner and confirming the terms in writing. The outdoor plan remained precarious while the work continued, so the cast rehearsed both layouts. Their contingency plan would require fewer props, but it preserved the essential scenes. Nobody treated a hopeful message about construction as a guarantee that the courtyard would be ready.
