Usual Dosing (Adults)
Alpha1-adrenergic antagonist for signs/symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, not hypertension. Usual 8 mg orally once daily with a meal. Available source strengths: 4 and 8 mg capsules.
Renal Dosing
CrCl 30-50 mL/min: reduce to 4 mg once daily with a meal. CrCl 50-80: no adjustment in the source. Below 30: contraindicated. The original bands overlap at exactly 50 and are retained without silently choosing a side.
Source Cockcroft-Gault estimate: male CrCl = (140 - age) x weight in kg / (72 x serum creatinine in mg/dL); female result multiplied by 0.85.
Hemodialysis
The source repeats the contraindication below CrCl 30 mL/min.
