What the offer actually provides

A small publisher offered Noor a lucrative commission to illustrate a series of travel journals. The proposed remuneration covered her drawing and revision work, while a separate document explained which designs would become proprietary to the publisher. Noor read the two arrangements carefully before accepting. A large payment interested her, but she also wanted to understand whether she could display the illustrations in her portfolio and reuse any unused sketches in later projects.

The commission would remain lucrative only if its substantial payment justified the time and expenses involved. Noor therefore asked whether the remuneration included additional revisions after the agreed sketches had been approved. She also requested a clear description of the proprietary material, since ownership of a finished design could differ from permission to show it. The publisher answered her questions, allowing her to evaluate both the immediate reward and the limits attached to the work.
