Inclement weather in the illustrator's travel account combined driving rain with harsh gusts that made the exposed coach stop uncomfortable for waiting passengers. A sultry carriage later felt oppressively hot and humid, with damp air lingering despite the open doorway at a station. A vertiginous spinning-camera sequence in the hostel's travel film briefly made the seated illustrator dizzy. The journal separated harsh weather, oppressive heat and humidity, and a dizzying visual effect, choosing the description that matched each experience rather than using one vague word for every uncomfortable moment.

The inclement conditions at the coach stop concerned weather, whereas the carriage's sultry atmosphere emphasized its oppressive combination of warmth and humidity. The vertiginous film sequence caused a sensation of dizziness without requiring the illustrator to stand on a great height. A later calm scene could still depict a high mountain without producing the same reaction in her. By naming the observed conditions and responses separately, the journal avoided treating every warm room as humid, every bad moment as a weather problem, or every impressive view as automatically dizzying.
