Aluminum hydroxide ( alternagel®)

Dosing (Adults):
Hyperphosphatemia: Oral: Initial: 300-600 mg 3 times/day with meals.
Hyperacidity: Oral: 600-1200 mg between meals and at bedtime.

Renal Dosing: Aluminum may accumulate in renal impairment.

Supplied
Oral Suspension: 320 mg/5 mL (473 mL).  AlternaGel®: 600 mg/5 mL (360 mL).

Aloh and magnesium trisilicate ( gaviscon®)

Dyspepsia, gastric acidity:
Oral: Chew 2-4 tablets 4 times/day or as directed by healthcare provider.

Dietary Considerations
Should be taken 1-3 hours after meals with water, milk, or juice. Gaviscon® chewable tablet contains sodium 0.8 mEq/tablet.

Supplied:
Tablet, chewable: Aluminum hydroxide 80 mg and magnesium trisilicate 20 mg .
Alenic Alka: Aluminum hydroxide 80 mg and magnesium trisilicate 20 mg [butterscotch flavor] .
Gaviscon®: Aluminum hydroxide 80 mg and magnesium trisilicate 20 mg [contains sodium 0.8 mEq/tablet; butterscotch flavor] .
Genaton: Aluminum hydroxide 80 mg and magnesium trisilicate 20 mg .

Gelusil®

Supplied
Aluminum hydroxide 200 mg, MgOH 200 mg, and simethicone 25 mg.
 
DIRECTIONS
Chew 2 to 4 tablets. May repeat hourly if symptoms return, or as directed by healthcare provider. Do not take more than 12 tablets in a 24 hour period, or use the maximum dosage for more than 2 weeks, except under the advice and supervision of a physician.

Maalox regular strength antacid/antigas liquid

Supplied
Per 5 ml (1 teaspoon):
Aluminum hydroxide 200 mg
Magnesium hydroxide 200 mg
Simethicone 20 mg

INDICATIONS:
As an antacid for symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with the diagnosis of peptic ulcer, gastritis, peptic esophagitis, gastric hyperacidity, or hiatal hernia. As an antiflatulent to alleviate the symptoms of gas, including postoperative gas pain.

DIRECTIONS / Dosing:
1) Shake well before using.
2) Adults/children 12 years and older: take 2 to 4 teaspoonsful four times a day or as directed by a physician.   Do not take more than 16 teaspoonsful in 24 hours or use the maximum dosage for more than 2 weeks.
3) Children under 12 years: consult a physician.

Maalox max maximum strength antacid/anti-gas liquid

Supplied
Per 5 ml (1 teaspoon):
Aluminum hydroxide 400 mg
Magnesium hydroxide 400 mg
Simethicone 40 mg

DIRECTIONS
1) Shake well before using
2)  Adults/children 12 years and older: take 2 to 4 teaspoonsful four times a day or as directed by a physician.

Maalox maximum strength chewable tablets

Supplied (in each tablet):
Calcium carbonate 1000 mg (equivalent to 400 mg calcium)
Simethicone 60 mg Antigas

USES:
For the relief of acid indigestion, heartburn, sour stomach, upset stomach associated with these symptoms, and bloating and pressure commonly referred to as gas.

DIRECTIONS
Chew 1 to 2 tablets as symptoms occur or as directed by a physician.
Do not take more than 8 tablets in a 24-hour period or use the maximum dosage for more than 2 weeks except under the advice and supervision of a physician.

General administration guidelines

Thoroughly chew tablets before swallowing.
Shake suspensions well before use.
Administer prior to meals when stomach acidity is highest.
